How CheckFirst works

Your privacy

• We never ask who you are. There is no sign-up and no account.
• When you check a message, the check runs on your own phone. What you type is not saved and is not sent anywhere.
• The only time anything leaves your phone is if you choose to tap the optional “closer look” button, and the app tells you clearly before it does.

How the check works

CheckFirst compares your message against a library of known scams and tells you how closely it matches. It is here to help you pause and think. It is guidance, not a guarantee. When in doubt, treat a message as a scam and check with someone you trust.

One simple rule

If someone contacts you out of the blue and creates urgency, secrecy, or asks for money, gift cards, or personal details, slow down. Real people and real organizations will let you take your time.

Reporting a scam in India

There is no such thing as a “digital arrest”. Real police never arrest you over a video or WhatsApp call. If you think you are being scammed:

• Call 1930, the national cyber-fraud helpline, as soon as you realise it. Reporting fast gives the best chance of recovering money.
• In Maharashtra you can also call 1945, the state cyber helpline.
• File a complaint at cybercrime.gov.in.
• Report a suspicious call, SMS, or WhatsApp message on Chakshu (Sanchar Saathi).

CheckFirst is an independent, free public-safety tool. It is not an official government service. It is here to help you pause and check, and it always points you to the official helplines and reporting channels above.
